Save The Date: You Must Take the A Train

I've just found out about a special event that is a "must attend". The details are still sketchy but I'm putting it out there anyway so that you can mark your calendar. You're getting this info before the press or anyone else for that matter.

On August 2 at New World Stages in NYC there will be a special "Celebration of Off-Broadway" event featuring the innovative A Train Plays. If you've never heard of them, you should check them out. Basically they take the A train at it's northernmost point one morning and by the time they get to the southernmost point (a 90 minute trip) they have three books for a musical. At the southernmost point they meet their composers and lyricists and three other playwrights who will write straight plays on the trip uptown while the lyricists/composers write two songs for their assigned play. After this process, they are met by their actors who get the final scripts. The next day they meet at 1pm to rehearse for a show time that is 8pm that night. I CANNOT WAIT to see this.

The August 2006 rendition of A Train Plays promises to be a particularly spellbinding rendition as the producers are lining up some of the best and brightest to come out of Off-Broadway theatre.

This event is for anyone who has ever loved the treatre. More details as I get them confirmed......

Last time I rode the entire A train, the only thing I had to show for it was a sore back and a desire to get the hell out of Far Rockaway.
