The Golden Ball; A Myth
This was written in 1982 according to the original document. I think Sister Agnes was the editor in question.
The Golden Ball: A Myth
Once there was a five-year old goddess whose name was Anissia, who liked to collect many things, especially round things. She had many beautiful things; like silver pans, emerald covered walls and even a round bed of rubies to sleep on (with many satin sheets, of course). She had every precious thing except for gold. And when she found out about the gold she cried. And cried. And cried.Until one day, her father Thorn, the god of thunder (whose fascinating tale is a different story all together) bought her a golden ball. When she saw it her eyes gleamed with happiness and she played with it for two entire earth years.
But one day it bounced into the Pond-of-Many-Shines which we know as our universe. She cried. And Cried. And Cried.
And that is the answer to both of your questions. The Golden Ball is our sun and her tears are how we get rain.
