Emmy 2006

The Emmy's were a snoozefest this year. Not for lack of trying, host Conan O'Brien did an impeccable job. He was great- funny and ironic and genuinely entertaining. Unfortunately, the middle two hours of the show was full of obscure awards for miniseries that almost nobody has seen. I don't begrudge them winning their awards and having their moment except that their moment lasts for two freaking hours! And in what world does Mariska Hargitay beat out Kyra Sedgewick and Allison Janney and Francis Conroy and Geena Davis!?.

Getting an award must feel really great, but that category and the bizarre outcome of some of the noms (most of the Grey's Anatomy folks were omitted) prove that these things are all smoke and mirrors that cover up alot of bullshit. Next year I'll tune in to the first and last half and skip all the nonsense.
