September Project 2006

This year's September Project benefits Habitat for Humanity-New Orleans. It was clear that last year's devastating hurricanes in the Gulf Region created damage and destruction that will take years to rebuild. New Yorkers received so much support in the days during and after 9-11, that it seems only natural to return the favor to this hothouse gem of Louisiana and the South. New Orleans needs our help; the September Project aims to answer the call with the help of Habitat for Humanity. September Project is focusing its attention on Musician's Village, a housing complex dedicated towards creating homes for displaced New Orleans musicians and anchored by the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music.

The original Habitat for Humanity was started by Linda and Millard Fuller in 1976. Inspired by the farming community Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia, the Fullers developed the concept of "partnership housing".

What the poor need is not charity but capital.*

Since it's inception Habitat for Humanity has built over 150,000 homes all over the world.

YOU can help!

There are many ways you can participate. Pledge a donation based on my NYC Danskin Triathlon performance, have a dinner party with friends and take donations or create your own September Project. Check out September Project for more information.
