Only 149,786 more to go!

This year I had promised myself that I wold participate in Nanowrimo.org when the time came. It's always in November and I can't think of a better birthday present to give myself then the satisfacation of having written something and finished it. Maybe I'm a born writer and don't even know it? Then I looked at my schedule...

I have so much going on at the moment that the odds of my actually finishing my novel in the month alloted is about as likely as Bush having a viable plan to resolve the Middle Eastern conflicts he's exacerbated. But this year..at least I started.

Here's the first excerpt from my untitled project. It's a romantic sci-fi genre novel although you might not quite be able to tell the sci fi stuff yet. It's untitled. I hope I finish it.

Lily charged the hill with gusto and purpose. It was, she was certain, the last beautiful day she would see for a long, long time and she wanted to make the best of it. The breeze tickled her skin while the sun warmed her face and puffy white clouds danced on a deep blue sky above her. At the top of the hill she knelt down to discover a tiny green lady bug diligently making its way towards whatever lady bugs did. Lily wasn’t sure but she had a feeling it was very important to the lady bug. The lady bug’s purposeful journey made Lily smile. “Go on little bug,” she thought. “Looks like you are enjoying the last good day too. “

Like a queen reigning over country, Lily stood and surveyed the countryside. Her countryside. The rolling hills and meadows of the Blue Monarch Valleys were the only home she’d ever known. She loved them for their secret hideaways and sprawling vistas. As the wind gently blew her tawny gold hair back and forth, Lily giggled at the joys of this last beautiful day of the season. And she knew that no matter old she got to be or where her life would take her, she would remember this day, this moment…forever.
